The main charity supported by Alchemy Architects is the ongoing professional services to the Lusito School providing care to the physically and mentally challenged. The existing school situated on a large property provided an ideal setting for this special needs school that required enlarging and improving its facility bought the property in 1995. Architect Gilberto Martins together Amandio Castanheira were originally asked to redesign and upgrade the existing school block and to design the new warehouse required to store the annual props for the Lusito Land festival.

The involvement and success of the school grew steadily and a new school block, reception block, school hall and indoor heated pool were to be built over the span of 10 years. The design of each facility remained low key as community donations were used to finance the construction of each phase. The school has an overall feel of warmth and happiness required for the positive stimulation of each special need child.
