The clients brief was for a modern structure that would off set the architecture of all the similar looking homes surrounding it. The dwelling although on a very small piece of ground had to accommodate a double garage, 3 bed rooms all with en-suit bathrooms, lounge, kitchen, dining area, study and an entertainment area with swimming pool.
The size of the envisaged property determined that a relatively small footprint would be used with double storey sections. The layout of the home remained north facing with the garage as the focal point to the top of the pan handle entrance. Sufficient turning circles and visitor parking is provided to the front of the main entrance doors. A stone clad fire place denotes the entrance to the side and the change in the angle of the structure.
Transparency on the ground floor is offset by privacy on the upper first floor. The option to clad the entire cube in timber slats was for the privacy to the neighbours rather than the privacy to the occupants of the house. The natural materials of the stone and timber cladding is balanced by the large number of trees that surround the property and the man made materials of the large glass screens and steel roof construction.
