This three bedroom house is situated in the 216 hectare Ebotse Golf Estate overlooking the golf course. The estate has been created to provide a relaxed country-living lifestyle around the Rynfield Lake.
Site Constraints & Environmental Concerns
Orientation of the site together with is relatively steep incline allowed the advantage of layering the homes floor levels relative to the site incline. The estates specific architectural guidelines required specific problem solving so as to maintain conformity with such specifics as height restrictions. The use of uninterrupted walls could not be used and that the street façade and frontage to provide an open and welcoming feeling.
Design Principles
The clients brief was for a Bali style house with a simple free flowing layout utilising open comfortable living spaces. The bedrooms and entertainment area are north easterly facing allowing maximum light penetration. A south facing entrance required a large floor to first floor ceiling window providing maximum light to light the double volume reception hall.
The site has a steep slope and the client wanted to take advantage of that. Thus having an open plan house where the spaces are defined by level changes, creating an interesting spatial dynamism between levels. These level changes aid in a naturally cross ventilated home.
