The clients brief was for an industrial shed like structure with minimal finishes. The structures design had to relate to brands core values of unashamed good health and structured exercise programmes in an un-intimidated environment.
The design of the external envelope of the gymnasium took on a cubistic form with steel external cladding, large areas of double volume glazing allowing views from both inside and out and feature walls that provided the backdrop for the company’s signage.
Interior planning was distinctive in that the functions of the building were split into two areas via a double volume circulation area and a service core. One side of the building housed the administrative, consulting rooms for health practitioners and change room blocks. The opposite side of the double volume area is where the gymnasium was housed with some areas being enclosed for sound proofing with the balance in an open plan environment.
Off-shutter concrete slabs, exposed steel structures and finishes provided the raw feel of the clients requirements for a shed facility.
